At an appointment this morning, I heard a mother's frustration AGAIN at her child's school. Why don't they check kids? The mom explained that they sometimes have parent volunteers come in and check children but it doesn't happen all the time.
I know of school secretaries who have this job (among a hundred other things they do), teachers who know what to look for, and volunteers who come in to help. But no-one at the administrative level appears to take any responsibility for it.
The answer at the school board level is "the health department says it's not a health issue" (and hence the school doesn't place any importance on head lice screening.)
So my question is: If the Health Department says it's not a health issue, why is the school board looking to the Health Department for advice on the best practice on dealing with lice? Any answers out there?
